The Zimbabwe Chess Federation has embarked on a nationwide player registration and database update exercise aimed at creating the most comprehensive and accurate record of chess players in Zimbabwe.
The initiative seeks to ensure that every chess player in the country receives timely and accurate information through the appropriate communication channels. By maintaining an up-to-date national database, the Federation will be better positioned to share important announcements, tournament information, training opportunities, rankings updates, development programmes, and other chess-related activities with players across the country.
This registration exercise is open to all chess players in Zimbabwe, regardless of age, gender, playing strength, or level of participation. Whether you are a complete beginner learning the game for the first time, a casual player who enjoys chess recreationally, a school player representing your institution, a club competitor, or a seasoned national athlete, your inclusion in the database is important.
The Federation believes that Zimbabwe is home to more than 100,000 chess players, making chess one of the fastest-growing intellectual sports in the country. However, the true size and reach of the chess community can only be accurately measured through the active participation of players in this registration drive.
Beyond improving communication, the database will help the Federation better understand the demographics of chess participation across the country, identify areas requiring development support, strengthen grassroots programmes, and provide valuable insights that can assist in attracting sponsorships, partnerships, and investment into Zimbabwean chess. A strong and reliable database is a critical tool in planning for the future growth of the game at school, club, provincial, national, and international levels.
The Federation is therefore calling upon every chess player to take a few moments to complete the registration form and become part of this historic national initiative. Players are also encouraged to share the registration link widely with their schools, chess clubs, teammates, coaches, friends, colleagues, and family members who play chess.
Every registration counts. Every player matters. Together, we can create a stronger, more connected, and better-informed chess community that reflects the true scale and potential of chess in Zimbabwe.
